Project Introduction
Nantong Hercules Steel Wire Co., Ltd., established in 2002, is located in Haimen City, Jiangsu Province. The company specializes in the manufacturing and processing of steel ropes and wires, with a workforce of 100-499 employees. The project’s power distribution system has issues such as harmonic distortion and other power quality problems. Since Hercules Steel Rope is a subsidiary of Nantong Langshan Steel Rope Co., Ltd., and Langshan Steel Rope uses Hercules’ products, which are well-recognized by Langshan’s owners, they have recommended Hercules for power quality testing.
Analysis and Solution
The project has a total of 6 transformers, all of which have undergone power quality testing. The test results showed significant harmonics, and a mitigation plan has been developed. The owner has temporarily requested the modification of transformers 1# and 2#. The installation and wiring for the modifications were completed by our company’s engineering team. The equipment is currently operating very well. Project configuration: 2 units of 700A Active Harmonic Filter.
Performance
THDi After Mitigation 4.2%
After the equipment was put into operation, the harmonic current distortion rate was reduced from 51.3% to 4.2%. The harmonic mitigation was highly effective, significantly improving the power quality, reducing line losses, and ensuring the stable operation of the distribution and production equipment. The remarkable results of the mitigation have also been recognized and praised by the owner.
