Industry Overview

        With the rapid development of smart cities, the demand for energy-saving in commercial plazas, residential areas, and public facilities is becoming increasingly profound. While energy-saving equipment is widely used in power distribution systems, it also generates a large amount of harmonic pollution, leading to equipment losses and safety hazards.

Power Quality Issues

        Harmonic pollution in commercial plazas, residential areas, and office buildings mainly comes from electronic ballasts in energy-saving lighting and rectifier-type power devices like UPS systems, office equipment, and variable frequency air conditioners. These sources generate 3rd-order, 5th, and 7th-order harmonics, with the harmonic distortion rate in commercial buildings typically ranging from 10-30%.

Power Quality Challenges

        Nonlinear loads on-site primarily generate 3rd-order zero-sequence harmonics. Since the vector angles of the 3rd-order harmonic currents are the same, their three-phase vector sum cannot cancel out and instead accumulates on the neutral line, causing the neutral current to exceed twice the phase current. This leads to severe overheating of the neutral wire, rapid aging of its protective rubber insulation, and, in extreme cases, potential fire hazards.

Solution

        IKonMac’s Active Harmonic Filter mitigate harmonics from 2nd to 50th order. Commercial buildings primarily generate 3rd, 5th, and 7th-order harmonics, with the 3rd-order being most significant. Single-phase loads can cause three-phase current imbalance.

        The IKM-AHF effectively mitigates harmonics and balances three-phase current, improving system power quality and ensuring safe electricity usage. AHFs can be installed in distribution cabinets for centralized mitigation or mounted on walls near distribution boxes for localized solutions.
